Satan, devil, an evil spirit or demon. Iblees is the personal name of shaitan. Arab philologists have derived it from the root b-l-s, on the grounds that Iblees “has nothing to expect (Arabic word ubalisa means to expect) from the mercy of Allah”.
Though the shaitan is invisible, he is conceived in the mind as the foulest (or ugliest) of things. Shaitan is dedicated to the ruination and destruction of the mankind. Shaitan uses amazing methods to mislead us. He misses no opportunity of cheating and deceiving us by filling our heart and mind with interference (vasvasa or evil insinuation). Shaitan’s real object is not merely to attract us into sinful disobedience, but his real purpose is to take us into the Hell. As has told us:
إنَّ الشَّيْطَنَ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ فَاتَّخِذُوْه‘ عَدُوّا
إنَّمَا يَدْعُوْا حِزْبَه‘ لَيَكُوْنُوْا مِنْ أصْحبِ السَّعِيْرِ
(Quran Shareef, Soorah: 35-Fatir, Verse: 6)
Undoubtedly the Shaitan is your enemy, so you observe him as enemy too. The Shaitan Summons his party only that they may be among the inhabitants of the blazing inferno.
Shaitan has no goal other than transporting the believers into disbelief in Allah. He simply transports them from one state to another, until Allah becomes angry with them. Then he leaves them to their own devices, so they fall into the Fire of the Hell in the company of shaitan.
لَاحَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إلَّا بِاللهِ الْعَلِىِّ الْعَظِيْمِ
(La havla vala quvvata illa billahil- ‘Aliyyil ‘Azeem)
There is no might, nor any power, except Allah, the All-High, the Almighty.
