Hadith / Hadis-e mursal:

Those Hadith / Hadis that are quoted by one of the tabe’een directly in the name of Holy Prophet (D.) are called Hadith / Hadis-e mursal. The second top link in the chain of narrators (i.e. sahabah-e kiram (Ra.) is missing.

Hadith / Hadis-e musnad:

Those Hadith / Hadis that are given together with the name of the sahabee (Ra.) who ascribe them to Holy Prophet (D.) are called Hadith / Hadis-e musnad. Musnad Hadith / Hadis are either muttasil (continuous, unbroken) or munqati (broken exterminate).

Hadith / Hadis-e musnad-e muttasil:

Those Hadith / Hadis that are ascribed to Holy Prophet (D.) by an unbroken chain of transmitters are called Hadith / Hadis-e musnad-e muttasil.

Hadith / Hadis-e mausool (connected)/ marfoo (raised):

A kind of musnad-e muttasil Hadith / Hadis in which a sahabee (Ra.) is being quoted as saying, “I have heard Holy Prophet (D,) saying so.

Hadith / Hadis-e mutavatir (continuous, repeated):

A kind of Musnad-e Muttasil Hadith / Hadis, which had been heard from Holy Prophet (D.) by several sahabah-e kiram (Ra.), and several other people had been heard from them, and were written in a book after hearing from several people who were not ever likely to have agreed on a lie. It is absolutely necessary to believe and to obey the Hadith/ Hadis that are mutavatir. He who disbelieves them becomes a kafir (infidel)

Hadith / Hadis-e mashhoor (well-known):

Those Hadith / Hadis that become well known and there were always more than three transmitters in the chain of transmitters. That is, they are the Hadith / Hadis that were heard from Holy Prophet (D.) by more than three persons, and from them several other people heard them later, and from them again, other people heard them; they were transmitted as mutavatir up to the last person. He who disbelieves mashhoor Hadith / Hadis becomes a kafir (infidel), too.

Hadith / Hadis-e saheeh (correct)

Those Hadith / Hadis that are musnad-e muttasil, Hadith / Hadis-e mutavatir and mashhoor Hadith / Hadis, and heard only from people who are adil (just), sadiq (righteous, faithful and reliable who are free  from narrating false statements)  and learned (who can infer or derive exegesis of a given word or text correctly, without any hidden defect and can remember it in its original form); where both narrator and the content of the narration are faultless (or free from any sort of open or hidden defect) and furthermore, the narrator had not differed from other more trustworthy narrators than him, are called saheeh Hadith / Hadis.

Hadith / Hadis-e musnad-e munqati

Those Hadith / Hadis whose one or more transmitters, except the sahabee (Ra.) are not recorded are called Hadith / Hadis-e musnad-e munqati.

Hadith / Hadis-e mauqoof (stop / deferred)

Those Hadith / Hadis of which all the transmitters are recorded up to a sahabee (Ra.) only are known as Hadith / Hadis-e mauqoof.

Hadith / Hadis-e qudsee (heavenly):

Those Hadith / Hadis of which the meaning is from Allah but uttered by Holy Prophet (D.) are called Hadith / Hadis-e qudsee. Whenever our master the Holy Prophet (D.) uttered a Hadith / Hadis-e qudsee, he was covered by a noor, and it was known by his appearance.

Hadees-e Hadith / Hadis (cancelled, abrogated):

These are those Hadith / Hadis that are said during the early age (of Islam) but later on were changed (by other Hadith / Hadis)

Hadith / Hadis-e hasan (good):

Those Hadith / Hadis of whose transmitters are faithful and trustworthy but without as strong a memory and understanding as those who have transmitted Hadith / Hadis-e saheeh.

Hadith / Hadis-e ghareeb (scarce, strange):

Any Hadith / Hadis that was transmitted by only one person is called Hadith / Hadis-e ghareeb.

Hadith / Hadis-e za‘eef (weak):

Those Hadith / Hadis, that are not saheeh or hasan, are called hadees-e za‘eef. One of their transmitters had a slack memory or was unjust or there was doubt in his belief. Za‘eef Hadith / Hadis can be valuable in terms of informing us about the virtues and savab in worships.

Hadith / Hadis-e mauzoo (fake or postulated):

Those Hadith / Hadis that are postulated or fabricated are called Hadith / Hadis-e mauzoo. That is, it was not uttered by our Holy Prophet or sahabah-e kiram but was introduced in the name of Hadith / Hadis by a munafiq or liar for slanderous purpose.
